What is ADHD?

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is a neurodevelopmental condition that can involve significant challenges with executive functions, including emotion regulation, attention, motivation and organization. Many people with ADHD describe feeling overwhelmed, misunderstood or frustrated by difficulties with focus, time management and/or impulse control. ADHD is not a lack of intelligence or effort – it is a difference in how the brain processes information and regulates attention. ADHD can also involve a significant number of strengths, such as creativity, innovation, energy, hyperfocus and resilience. Despite these strengths, some people find that their executive functioning challenges interfere with education, work, relationships, finances, health behaviours and/or mental health. These challenges can lead to anxiety, low confidence or burnout over time, especially when ADHD is undiagnosed or unsupported.
Psychotherapy provides a supportive, structured space to understand ADHD and develop practical strategies for everyday life. Therapy is not about “fixing” you—it is about working with your brain, not against it. It is also about helping you recognize and harness your strengths.
