Dr. Massey is a psychologist registered for autonomous practice through the College of Psychologists of Ontario. She joined the Firestone CBT Clinic to pursue her passion in providing couples therapy and treatment for disordered eating / body image concerns. Dr. Massey also has expertise treating mood and anxiety disorders, as well as life transition issues with adults and adolescents.
Dr. Massey received her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Widener University in Pennsylvania, USA. She has received extensive training in couples therapy through the Gottman Institute, including level 3 training. Based on 40 years of research, the Gottman Method is a skills-based approach to improving relationships, incorporating work on intimacy, communication, conflict management, and the pursuit of shared dreams.
In addition to spending several years treating eating disorders in private practice at the Centre for Cognitive Therapy, Dr. Massey served as a Senior Psychologist / Eating Disorders Coordinator for Johns Hopkins University's Counselling Center, and also worked at The Renfrew Center, the first residential treatment facility for eating disorders in the USA.
Dr. Massey’s approach to therapy is primarily cognitive-behavioural, while integrating principles from acceptance and commitment therapy, motivational interviewing, and Gottman Method couples therapy. She intertwines these treatments with a deep understanding of evolutionary psychology and cognitive science — as well as deep compassion, warmth, and a sense of humour. When she is not working Dr. Massey likes learning about interior design, spending time with her friends, painting and cuddling with her puppies.
